Our philosophy, background, and training beliefs
My goal with every player I work with is to help them elevate their game in multiple ways: technical, tactical, mental, and physical.
The foundation of my coaching begins with technical development. I focus on teaching all the key skills needed to succeed on the field: passing, receiving, dribbling, moves to escape pressure, techniques to beat defenders, and different ways to strike the ball. Mastering these techniques requires consistent, focused repetition—done correctly and with intensity. This is how powerful shots, a clean first touch, sharp dribbling, and precise passing are developed over time.
Once these technical skills are in place, we move on to applying them in pressure situations, which is where tactical awareness and decision-making come into play. Soccer is a fast-paced game, not just physically, but mentally. The smartest players are often the most successful because they’re able to read the game quickly and make better decisions under pressure. Today’s top players have a combination of skill, intelligence, and athleticism, and it's crucial to develop all three. As in any sport, the goal is to move the ball forward, and if that’s not possible, to retain possession and keep the game moving.
In addition to technical and tactical training, I integrate exercises to improve physical fitness—core strength, speed ladders, and other drills to enhance agility and speed. These are all vital components to building a well-rounded player.
Beyond the technical, tactical, and physical aspects, I also focus on instilling a strong work ethic and a true love for the game. Soccer is an athletic art form, and to truly master it, you need to dedicate time outside of practice—whether it’s in your backyard, at the park, in your basement, or at your school gym. The individual work you put in is essential to your development as a player.
These are the "intangibles"—the stuff that only you, the player, can do.
No one can do it for you, not mom, not dad, not the coach. It’s your responsibility to take ownership of your game.
Over the course of my training sessions, I work to inspire and motivate players to embrace this self-driven approach to improvement. Team practices are critical—they form the foundation. Private training sessions are a great supplement. But to truly reach your highest potential, you need to put in the extra work on your own. That's what separates the good from the great.
I take pride in working hard as both a player and a coach, and I expect the same commitment from my players. At the end of the day, enjoyment is at the core of any player’s development. Serious training doesn’t have to be taxing—it should be fun and fulfilling. I look forward to each and every session, and I can’t wait to see you at a training soon!
Kevin has been my coach, trainer, and friend for the past 7 years. His knowledge about the game of soccer is impeccable. He understands what it takes to be successful and pushes each player he works with to get closer and closer to reaching their end goal every single session.
I started with Coach Wickart when I was 10 years old and every training session has made me a better player. He makes sure that every technique is done properly, which helped to ingrain core skills into my muscle memory that some coaches overlook at practice.
I began training with Coach Wickart when I was a u10 player. He continues to be an instrumental figure in developing my game by implementing a foundation of technical skills, drills, and ladder work that club training did not focus upon. His attention to detail and his strive to improve even the littlest touch caused me to develop a very technical and skillful game.
I started training with Kevin in high school and he improved and refined my technical skills immensely. He is very detailed and incorporates parts of the game into his training sessions that are not focused on in team trainings. Kevin cares a lot about your development as a player and pushes you to your full potential.
